Summary
One of a pair of incense burners, red stoneware with black applied decoration, in tripod form. Staffordshire, late 18th century. Lids missing. Rosso Antico ware.
Provenance
Probably acquired by Sir Richard Colt Hoare, 2nd Baronet (1758-1838). Listed in the 1902 Inventory in the Small Dining Room as 'The set of six fine old Wedgwood ornament, consisting of: One pair of 6½ in. Triangular urns; One pair of 4½ in. Spills (1 broken); One pair of 6 in. urns with covers on tripod dolphins.' Bequeathed to the National Trust along with Stourhead House, its grounds, and the rest of the contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
