Figure, one of a pair, hard paste porcelain painted in enamels and gilded, possibly Rockingham Works, Swinton, West Riding of Yorkshire, England, early 19th century. A male figure wearing oriental costume on a scrolled base. Unmarked. Called a Mandarin; the term 'Mandarin' is of Portugese and Malay origins and was used by Europeans to refer to Chinese scholar-officials.
