Summary
Figure, soft paste biscuit porcelain, La Petite Acheteuse de Gimblettes, from the series 'Enfants Falconet' modelled by Etienne-Maurice Falconet (Paris 1716 – Paris 1791) for the Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory (established 1756), Sèvres, France, circa 1770-1780. Based on the engraved series 'Enfants Boucher' after drawings by François Boucher (Paris 1703 – Paris 1770), 1757. A seated girl pays for her pastry while her dog attempts to steal it. 730481 is a version of this figure without the dog. Base faintly incised 'F / XI'.
Provenance
Listed in the ‘Inventory of Heirlooms at Stourhead directed to be taken by the Will of the late Sir Richard Colt Hoare Bart.’, 1838, in the China Cupboard, as one of ‘Seventeen small ornamental French China Figures’. Bequeathed by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947), 1946.
