Summary
An oak chest, West Country, circa 1650. The hinged plank lid above a profusely carved triple-panel front with arcading, rosettes and stiff-leaf, the frieze with stylised flowers and lunettes, the stiles and lower rail carved with a repeating geometric leaf motif, standing on later block feet. Arcading, stiff-leaf and geometric leaf patterns are all characteristic of West Country carved decoration.
