Summary
Watercolour on paper, View of Holnicote House by Francis Nicholson (Pickering 1753 – London 1844), circa 1808/13. Holnicote House was built in 1779, burnt down 1851, rebuilt and reburnt 1941, rebuilt again. It was given to the National Trust in 1944. There are references to Nicholson's visits to Holnicote in the Reverend Joshua Stephenson's diary - July 17 1808 when Sir TD Acland and his new wife Lydia (Hoare) return from a visit to Stourhead 'bringing the artist Nicholson with them'. He leaves on Oct 10. He is again at Holnicote in July 1809 and again on 25th June 1813. NOTE; Loaned to Killerton 11/08/2016
