Summary
Raised work embroidered picture 'Abraham's servant meeting Rebekah'. (Genesis xxiv 11-15). Late 17th century embroidered figures and camels re-applied late 19th century. Letter attached to back of 724410, dated 6th December 1975 reads - 'These eight pictures are reputed to be the work of members of the chambre family (see Burke's Dictionary of the Landed Gentry 1852, vol. 2, page 345 of the Supplement - Chambre of Halhead Hall and Kendall). Towards the end of the eighteenth century, Jane Chambre, daughter of Walter Chambre and niece of Sir Alan Chambre, Justice of the Court of Common Pleas, married Thomas Hinde of Liverpool (see Hinde of Caton and Lancaster, ibid. p. 371 of the Supplement). Their daughter, Mary Elizabeth, married my great-grandfather, Thomas Thompson, on 10th July 1832. It would seem that these pictures descended through these ladies to me. T.C. Thompson'.
