Summary
Spring table clock. 8 day single train table clock with verge and crown wheel escapement and with pull quarter repeating by Francis Gregg, London. Quarters and hours sounded on demand on one small and one large bell. Movement with 4 finned pillars. Break arch dial with silvered chapter ring, Roman Hour Numerals, Arabic 5 minute numerals and a minute track. Diamond half quarter markers and with the inner ring marked in quarters with arrow decoration. Matted centre with square calendar aperture and false pendulum aperture, silvered cartouche with “Francis Gregg, London” engraved. Rise and fall pendulum regulation in the arch. Pierced and blued steel hands and hooded mask and scroll spandrels. Engraved back plate. Ebonised case with inverted bell top, carrying handle, glass panels to the sides and back door, standing on a stepped base. Clock similar to one by Gregg shown on pp78 and 79 of 'Hobson's Choice' by Charles Hobson (Published 1982, by Malcolm Gardner of Sevenoaks).circa 1720
