Summary
Bottle or jar with wooden cover (one of pair with NT 718435). Porcelain in underglaze blue with court ladies in a garden. China, Kangxi Period (1662-1722), c.1700 with replacment wooden cover. This shape may be inspired by Dutch glass gin bottles designed to be packed in chests, however, the form was also used to store tea as shown in Josef van Aken's painting An English Family at Tea c.1720 (Tate: NO 4500), with the original porcelain cover serving as a measure.
