Summary
Oil painting on board, Captain Edward Lee (c.1790-1855) by Frederick Richard Lee, RA (Barnstaple 1798-Cape Colony 1879), circa 1820. Rectangular. A head-and-shoulders portrait of a man turned to the right, right profile, in a brown cape, with black collar, black neckcloth. Dark eyes, brown hair and whiskers, aged about 30. Sky background. Painted by his brother and whose other brother was Thomas Lee (1794-834) of Barnstaple Devon, the architect, who Ruth Pennyman was a descendant on her father's side. Fought at battle of Corunna in 1809.
