Summary

A vinyl record, the album Cut by The Slits. The record contains ten songs with five songs on each side. There are circular blue paper labels in the centre of each side which have a list of song titles listed at the top with a coloured Island Records logo at the bottom, plus a silhouette of three female figures to the left of the logo. The records catalogue number (ILPS 9573) is printed to the right of centre on each label. The Slits were an all female punk rock band who formed in London in 1976, initially comprised of the members Ariane Forster (Ari Up), Paloma Romero (Palmolive), Kate Korus and Suzy Gutsy. Following the departure of Korus and Gutsy, they were replaced by Viv Albertine and Tessa Pollitt to form what is seen as the classic line up of the band. The band were initially active between 1976 and 1982 before reforming with a different line up in 2005, recording and performing until 2010 when Forster died. Cut was the debut studio album by the band and by the time of its recording Romero had left and been replaced for the studio sessions by Peter Clarke (Budgie) of the band Siouxsie and The Banshees. The album was recorded at the Ridge Farm Studios in Rusper, Surry and was produced by Dennis Bovell. It was released on the Island Records label.
