Summary
A cardboard sleeve for a vinyl record, the self titled album by The Sugarhill Gang. The front cover of the sleeve features a colour image of the band performing live with 'SUGARHILL GANG' printed across the top in capital letters. The rear of the sleeve has colour head and shoulder portraits of the three band members Michael ‘Wonder Mike’ Wright, Guy ‘Master Gee’ O’ Brien and Henry ‘Big Bank Hank’ Jackson at the top right, with a list of the song titles on the record printed in yellow letters at the top left. Across the centre of the rear of the sleeve there are printed details of the musicians who appear on the record, plus production and engineering credits. Below this list there are printed biographical details of each of the three band members, including age, place of birth and hobbies. The records catalogue number (SHLP 245) and a colour Sugarhill Records logo are printed in the bottom right corner of the rear of the sleeve. The bands name and the records catalogue number are also both printed on the spine of the sleeve.
Provenance
Cardboard sleeve for self titled vinyl record recorded by The Sugarhill Gang and released on the Sugarhill Records label on 7th February 1980. Purchased by the National Trust Museum of Childhood via Discogs on 6th August 2020 as part of the Collecting Cultures Exploring Childhoods project.
