Summary
A vinyl record, the self titled album by The Sugarhill Gang. The record contains six songs with three songs on each side. There is a circular, pale blue paper label in the centre of each side. Each label has a multicoloured Sugarhill Records logo at the top with a list of song titles on that side printed at the bottom, each title having song writer credits printed after it in brackets. The albums catalogue number (SHLP 245) is printed to the right of centre on each label and there is a Pye Records logo at the bottom. The Sugarhill Gang are an American hip-hop group who formed in 1979 initially comprised of the three members Henry ‘Big Bank Hank’ Jackson, Michael ‘Wonder Mike’ Wright and Guy ‘Master Gee’ O’ Brien. They were active until 1985 but reformed in 1994 with a different line up and continue to perform. This self titled record was the bands debut album. It was produced by Sylvia Robinson and released on the Sugarhill Records label. It is considered by many to be the first studio album in the hip-hop genre of music.
