Summary
A vinyl record, the album ‘Dance To The Duke’ by Duke Ellington and His Orchestra. The record contains eight songs, with four on each side. There is a circular blue paper label in the centre on each side of the record. These labels have a Capitol Records logo at the top, the album title and artists name in the centre and a list of song titles and songwriting credits for each side at the bottom. To the left of centre on each label the records catalogue number, T-637 is printed. Edward Kennedy (Duke) Ellington (1899 – 1974) was an American jazz pianist, composer and band leader who played with his orchestra from 1923 onwards. ‘Dance To The Duke’ was an album of jazz songs released on the Capitol Records label.

Vinyl record recorded by Duke Ellington and His Orchestra between April 1953 and October 1954. Released by Capitol Records in 1954. Purchased by the National Trust Museum of Childhood via Discogs on 7th August 2020 as part of the Collecting Cultures Exploring Childhoods project.
