Summary

A cardboard record sleeve for the vinyl record 'The Monkees' by the band of the same name. The front of the sleeve features a colour image of the four members of the band, from left to right Michael Nesmith, Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork and David Jones. In the top left corner there is a logo for the record company RCA Victor in white and 'the MONKEES' is printed in yellow at the top right corner. At the bottom of the front cover is a list of the song titles on the record printed in yellow. The rear of the sleeve features head and shoulder portraits of the four band members in black and white with personal details including height, birthplace and what instrument they play listed below each image. Although listed as playing instruments on the record, the bands management company did not permit them to function as a working band for this record and the contributions of the band members were restricted to mainly vocal tracks with the music played by session musicians. Peter Tork was the only Monkee who actually played an instrument on the record. To the left of the portraits there are five further black and white photos of the band. Presented in a ‘film strip’ style, these images were taken from episodes of the television show in which the band appeared. In the centre at the top of the rear of the sleeve there is a list of the songs on each side of the record with production credits immediately below. The records catalogue number (SF-7844) is printed at the top right corner on the rear of the sleeve. The spine of the sleeve also has the records catalogue number printed on it along with the band and the record company names.

Provenance
