Summary
A vinyl record, the self titled album by The Monkees. The record contains twelve songs with six on each side. There is a circular paper label in the centre of each side. At the top of each label there is a red RCA logo with a list of the songs on that side of the record printed below in white lettering. The surnames of the writers of each song are listed in brackets after the title. To the right of centre on each of the labels is the records catalogue number: 'RD.7844'. The Monkees were an American pop band with four members: Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork and David Jones. They were originally a fictional band created for a television series but went on to have a successful musical career in the late 1960’s. This self titled album was the band’s first. Recorded in Los Angeles, it was produced by Tommy Boyce, Bobby Hart, Jack Keller and Michael Nesmith and was released on the RCA Victor label for Colgems Records. Although credited as playing instruments on the record, the bands management company did not permit them to function as a working band for this album and the contributions of the band members were restricted to mainly vocal tracks with the music played by session musicians. Peter Tork was the only Monkee to actually play on the album. The record became the first of four consecutive number one albums that the band had in America.
