Summary

The original cardboard box packaging for an 'Earring Magic Ken' character doll, part of the 'Earring Magic' series manufactured by Mattel Inc. The front of the box has a large see through cellophane window through which the doll and its accessories can be seen, with a colour image of a female child wearing a ‘Barbie’ earring at the bottom right. The rear of the box has a colour image of a young female child wearing a 'Barbie' earring with images of the Ken doll and three female dolls from the series at the bottom. There is a Mattel trademark logo on the front, ends and rear of the box with ‘MATTEL’ in white letters on a red circular background. The dolls number (2290) is printed next to all of these logos. Consumer information is printed at the bottom of one side of the box with production and trademark details printed at the bottom of the other side. The inside of the box is orange and is decorated with sketches of various pieces of jewellery. At the time of cataloguing (October 2023) the box is still sealed and has never been opened.

Provenance

Original box for doll and accessories manufactured by Mattel Inc. in 1992. Purchased by the National Trust Museum of Childhood via ebay in August 2020 as part of the Collecting Cultures Exploring Childhoods project.
