Summary
The original cardboard box packaging for a Barbie Sign Language doll manufacture by Mattel. The front of the box has a large cellophane window through which the contents can be seen, while the rear has text and diagrams that explain what sign language is and show the sign language symbols for the twenty six letters of the alphabet. The front, rear and two ends of the box all have a Mattel logo with the dolls number (25837) printed immediately above. The inside flap on one end of the box has the number ‘9993’ printed on it in black. The inside of the box is designed as a school classroom featuring a desk, a chair and various pictures. It can be removed from the box and used as a scene/prop when playing with the doll.

Original cardboard box for a Barbie Sign Language doll manufactured by Mattel Inc. in 1999. Purchased by the National Trust Museum of Childhood via ebay in August 2020 as part of the Collecting Cultures 'Exploring Childhoods' project.
