Summary
A grey, plastic hand held controller for a Nintendo 64 video games system. The irregular shaped controller has three feet that protrude from its bottom end and at the top of the central foot there is a small circular plastic joy stick and above this, a circular red button marked 'START'. On the left hand side of the controller there is plastic button in the shape of a cross with directional arrows at the end of each of the crosses arms and a circle in the centre. On the right hand side there are four yellow buttons, each with a directional arrow marked on them, which are located around the edge of a circle that has the letter 'C' in the centre. Just to the left of these buttons there is a blue button with 'A' marked on it and a green button with 'B' marked on it. At the top there is an embossed 'Nintendo' trademark logo. On the underside of the controller there is a grey button with 'Z' marked on it and a socket to connect an electrical cable. On the front edge there are two buttons, one on either side of the centre, one marked 'L' and one marked 'R'. The patent number 'NUS-005' is also stamped here. The controller comes with a length of electric flex and a plug attached to allow it to be connected to a socket on the control deck. Nintendo Co. Ltd. is a Japanese multinational consumer electronics and video games company. It has gained international recognition through the release of video games including Donkey Kong and Super Mario.

Manufactured in China for Nintendo Co. Ltd in 1996. Purchased by the National Trust Museum of Childhood on 18th September 2020 as part of the Collecting Cultures 'Exploring Childhoods' project.
