Summary
The original cardboard box packaging for a Pokémon Crystal Version video game cartridge. The box is square shaped and its top has the 'POKÉMON' trademark printed at the top in large yellow letters above a colour image of one of the game's characters. To the side of this image 'GAME BOY COLOUR' is printed in purple, red, yellow and green letters. There is a red Nintendo trademark in the top left corner and at the bottom of the box top and on both of its ends and 'Crystal Version' is printed in white letters at the bottom on the top of the box. On the base of the box there are printed instructions in English and Dutch on the games key features. The European Patent Number of the game ‘378 385’ is printed in the bottom right corner of the base, with the letters 'CGB P BYTP' printed in the bottom left above a bar code. On each of the four flaps inside the ends of the box is printed ‘CGB-BYTP-NHAU’. Pokémon is a series of video games developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo.
Provenance
Manufactured in Japan for Nintendo/Game Freak in 2001. Purchased by the National Trust Museum of Childhood via ebay on 17th September 2020 as part of the Collecting Cultures 'Exploring Childhoods' project.
