Summary
A textile/plush cuddly toy of the Pokémon character Meowth manufactured by Nintendo/Game Freak. The toy is yellow with the tips of its feet and tail in brown coloured material. The toy has two large white eyes with black markings in the centre and its mouth is also marked in black. There is a pointed white tooth at either end of the mouth. The toy has black and brown ears and has six pairs of pointed tassels attached to its forehead. In the centre of these six pairs of tassels there is a small piece of darker yellow coloured material with black stripes that protrudes out slightly from the head. There is a white label attached to the bottom of the toy which has printed trademark and copyright details on one side and washing instructions on the reverse. The number '00531' is also printed on the label. Pokémon is a series of video games developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo.
Provenance
Manufactured in China for Nintendo/Game Freak in 1998. Purchased by the National Trust Museum of Childhood via ebay on 24th March 2020 as part of the Collecting Cultures 'Exploring Childhoods' project.
Marks and inscriptions
Bottom of toy: White label stitched to side of toy with printed copyright/trademark details on one side and washing instructions on the other. Also the number '00531' is printed on one side.
