Summary
A textile/plush cuddly toy based on one of the beast characters from the 1963 children's picture book 'Where The Wild Things Are' written by Maurice Sendak. The toy has long black hair, a black beard and a long black tail. It has two white horns on either side of the top of its head, and yellow and black eyes. The toy is dressed in a faded brown and orange stripped top and its legs are covered in material with a scale pattern. The toys arms and legs are moveable and there are four white textile claws at the bottom of each arm and leg. There are two labels attached to the toys side, one with printed trademark and copyright details and the other with washing instructions.
Provenance
Originally manufactured in 1985. Purchased by the National Trust Museum of Childhood via ebay on 17th September 2020 as part of the Collecting Cultures 'Exploring Childhoods' project.
