Summary

A grey plastic Star Wars Scout Walker vehicle toy manufactured by Kenner. The toy stands on two long legs which have joints/hinges that allow the legs to move and the toy to walk. At the bottom of each leg there is an oval shaped foot. On the rear of the main body there is a button below which there is a small lever with arrows on it which can be moved horizontally from left to right. If this lever is located to the left then the model is in the stand position and the button cannot be depressed. If the lever is to the right, then the button can be depressed by hand and this allows the toy to walk. The head of the Scout Walker has guns attached to either side which can be rotated into different positions and there is a third gun on the front which can be moved up and down. The head can be rotated from side to side and on its top there is a hinged lid which revels a cockpit area when opened into which two action figures can be inserted. There is space for an additional gun to be fitted to the front of the lid. In the centre of the lid there is a smaller, circular hinged hatch. There are two small windows, one on each side of the head. The Scout Walker was a two-man patrol vehicle that first appeared in the Star Wars film ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ released in 1980.

Provenance

Originally manufactured by Kenner circa 1980. Purchased by the National Trust Museum of Childhood in 2018 from Richard Plumb via ebay on 22nd September 2020 as part of the Collecting Cultures 'Exploring Childhoods' project.
