Summary
A square shaped magic lantern style glass slide manufactured for the Dr. Barnardo’s Homes charity. The slide contains an image of a large group of children with a few adults standing in a street outside a wooden slated building. Along the left hand edge of the slide there is a white label with 'SLUMS IN EAST END OF LONDON CIRCA 1900' hand-written in ink on it. On the right hand edge is a label with the printed text 'This Slide is the property of Dr. Barnardo's Homes'. Dr. Barnardo’s Homes is a British charity founded in 1866 by Thomas John Barnardo.
Provenance
Manufactured for Dr. Barnardo's Homes circa 1900. Purchased by the National Trust Museum of Childhood from Philip Banham on 7th March 2020 as part of the Collecting Cultures 'Exploring Childhoods' project.
