Summary
An original copy of the Marvel Comics comic book X-Men Vol. 1 No. 129 published in January 1980. The comic book features the X-Men characters in the story ‘God Spare The Child’ written by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. The front cover illustration is by John Byrne, Terry Austin and John Costanza and shows the X-Men in a fight/battle scene. On the left hand edge of the illustration, immediately above a bar code ‘Byrne & Austin’ is hand-written. At the top of the front cover above the illustration ‘THE UNCANNY X-MEN’ is printed in large white letters and in the top left corner is the US price of the comic (40C), the issue number (129), the month of publication (JAN) and the number ‘02461’. Below this there are trademarked head and shoulder illustrations of the X-Men characters. In the top right hand corner there is a logo showing that the comic book is approved by the Comics Code Authority. The rear cover of the comic book contains a colour advert for Lego. The comic book is contained within a sealed protective perspex frame. Marvel Comics is the publisher of American comic books that feature a range of super hero characters including Captain Marvel, Spiderman, Thor, The X-Men and The Fantastic Four. Marvel Comics was started in 1939 by Martin Goodman.

Published by Marvel Comics in January 1980. Purchased by the National Trust Museum Of Childhood via ebay on 19th August 2020 as part of the Collecting Cultures 'Exploring Childhoods' project.
