Summary
An original copy of the DC comic book Batgirl Vol. 1 No. 21 published in December 2001. The comic book features the character Batgirl in the story ‘Batgirl’ written by Kelley Puckett. The front cover illustration is by Tim Sale and shows Batgirl in the background with the face of a male character in the foreground who has green coloured hair, a long thin moustache and a goatee beard both of which are also coloured green. This character also has large teeth. At the bottom right of the cover illustration ‘TS 01’ is printed inside a small square box. ‘BATGIRL’ is printed at the top of the front cover in large lime green coloured letters and above this is the text ‘JOKER’S LAST LAUGH’ in black and white letters. To the right of the comic’s title there is a box that contains the issue number (21) and the date of publication (DEC 01) and next to this is a logo that shows that the comic is approved by the Comics Code Authority. Immediately above this is a DC comics logo and immediately below there is a trademark Batgirl logo in black on a yellow background. In the bottom left corner written in lime green letters are the words 'Puckett', Scott' and ‘Campanella' denoting Kelley Puckett the writer and Damion Scott and Robert Campanella two illustrators who created the images within the comic book. In the bottom right corner adjacent to a bar code the comics US ($2.50) and Canadian ($4.25) prices are printed. The comic book is contained within a sealed cellophane envelope. DC Comics is an American comic book publisher founded in 1934. Its comics feature iconic characters including Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.

Published by DC Comics in December 2001. Purchased by the National Trust Museum of Childhood from House Of M Comics on 19th August 2020 as part of the Collecting Cultures 'Exploring Childhoods' project.
