Summary
An original copy of the Marvel Comics comic book Astonishing X-Men Vol. 3. No. 51 published in August 2012. The comic book features the Astonishing X-Men characters in the story ‘1st Story’ written by Marjorie Liu. The front cover illustration is by Dustin Weaver and Rachelle Rosenberg. The gatefold illustration covers the front and rear of the comic book and depicts a wedding scene with two male characters in the foreground, dressed in suits, standing on a podium facing each other and holding hands. Seated and standing in the background is an audience of many other Marvel Comics characters. The cover illustration was historic as it was the first depiction of a gay wedding for Marvel Comics. At the top of the front cover ‘ASTONISHING X-MEN’ is printed in large black and white letters. In the top left corner is the Marvel logo and the issue number (51) and below this the names ‘LIU’, ‘PERKINS’ and ‘TROY’. These are the writer Majorie Liu and Mike Perkins and Andy Troy who worked on the illustrations for the story. At the bottom right hand corner there is an advert for a free digital copy of the comic book and just above this to the right is the US price of the comic ($3.99). Marvel Comics is the publisher of American comic books that feature a range of super hero characters including Captain Marvel, Spiderman, Thor, The X-Men and The Fantastic Four. Marvel Comics was started in 1939 by Martin Goodman.
