Summary

An original copy of the Marvel Comics comic book Giant Size X-Men Vol. 1 No. 1 published in May 1975. The comic book features the Giant X-Men characters in the story ‘Deadly Genesis’ written by Len Wein The front cover illustration is by Gil Kane, Dave Cockrum and Danny Crespi and shows the new Giant X-Men in front of the original X-Men. At the bottom right of the cover illustration, the initials ‘GK' and 'DEC’ are written in black within a square shape. ‘GIANT-SIZE X-MEN’ is printed at the top of the front cover in large red letters while in the bottom left corner ‘NEW DEADLY GENESIS’ is written in red and white letters on a yellow background. At the top left of the cover there is the issue number (1) and next to this are the year of publication (1975) and the number '02940'. Immediately below this information is printed the US price of the comic (50c). In the top right corner there is a logo showing that the comic is approved by the Comics Code Authority. There is also a yellow flash in the top left corner containing red text that says the issue has '68 BIG PAGES'. The rear page of the comic contains an advert for the American Seed Co. The comic book is contained within a sealed protective perspex frame which is itself inside a sealed cellophane envelope. Marvel Comics is the publisher of American comic books that feature a range of super hero characters including Captain Marvel, Spiderman, Thor, The X-Men and The Fantastic Four. Marvel Comics was started in 1939 by Martin Goodman.

Published by Marvel Comics in May 1975. Purchased by the National Trust Museum of Childhood from A1 Comics via ebay on 2nd September 2020 as part of the Collecting Cultures 'Exploring Childhoods' project.
