Summary
An original copy of the Marvel Comics comic book X-Men Vol. 1 No. 1 published in September 1963. The comic book features the X-Men characters in the story ‘X-Men’ written by Stan Lee and is the first appearance of these characters in a Marvel comic book. The front cover illustration is by Jack Kirby and Sol Brodsky and shows The X-Men fighting with their opponent Magneto. At the top of the front cover ‘the X-MEN' is written in red and black letters. In the top right hand corner the issue number (1) and month of publication (SEPT) are printed next to a logo showing the comic book is approved by the Comics Code Authority. The US price of the comic (12c) is printed in the top left corner below an illustration of two of the X-Men characters. The rear of the comic features a colour advert for Wallace Brown Cards. The comic book is contained within a sealed protective perspex frame which is itself inside a sealed cellophane envelope. Marvel Comics is the publisher of American comic books that feature a range of super hero characters including Captain Marvel, Spiderman, Thor, The X-Men and The Fantastic Four. Marvel Comics was started in 1939 by Martin Goodman.
