Summary
A papier-mâché money collection box for the Dr. Barnardo’s Homes charity. The collection box is designed in the shape of a cottage or house which is painted yellow and has a red front door with a green surround. The door has the words ‘EVER OPEN’ written on it. The house has a brown tiled roof, two large windows on the ground floor, one on each side of the door and two smaller windows on the upper floor, again painted blue. The eaves of the house are painted green. There is a slot in the centre of the roof where coins can be put into the box. On each end of the house 'DR. BARNARDO'S HOMES' is painted in brown letters. On the rear of the box a stained paper slip has been glued on which is a paying in slip for recording cash deposits. Information including the Dr. Barnardo’s branch, the members name and address and the deposits of money made have been completed in blue ink but these are indecipherable. On the bottom of the box there is a hole where there would previously have been a stopper to prevent money falling out. Dr. Barnardo’s Homes is a British charity founded in 1866 by Thomas John Barnardo.
