Summary
A George III silver nipple shield made by Thomas Phipps and Edward Robinson in London in 1803. The nipple shield has a circular base and a domed top. It is pierced around the base and at the top of the dome. The object is hallmarked on the underside of the base. Nipple shields were used to protect the nipple while breastfeeding a baby and were made of many different types of material during this period including silver, other metals, wood, ivory and bone.
