Summary
A doll of ‘Ginger Spice’ Geri Halliwell from the pop band The Spice Girls in its original packaging. The doll is made of PVC and is from the ‘Girl Power’ official merchandise set. The doll is dressed in the famous Union Jack mini-dress as worn by Geri during a performance at the Brit Awards in 1997. The box is made of cardboard and has a cellophane window through which the doll can be seen. It has ‘Spice Girls Girl Power’ written on its front in multi-coloured text, together with an image of Geri and her signature. On the rear of the box is another image of Geri and images of the other band members, plus some of Geri’s personal details (birthday, nickname, favourite colour etc.). The box also contains a plastic miniature video camera and a Spice Girls badge. The Spice Girls formed in the UK in 1994 and were made up of Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice), Melanie Brown (Scary Spice) Victoria Beckham (nee Adams – Posh Spice) and Emma Bunton (Baby Spice).
Provenance
Purchased by the National Trust Museum of Childhood via ebay on 12th September 2017 as part of the Collecting Cultures 'Exploring Childhoods' project.
