Summary
A Barratt's cardboard sweet cigarette box it would of contained children's sweet cigarettes. On the lid is a picture of Huckleberry Hound ice skating with other cartoon characters on a pond with a background of snow covered mountains and fir trees. Written on the top is BARRATT in a yellow ballon, in red Huckleberry Hound, in black sweet cigarettes NET WEIGHT 3 OZS 10 DRMS AV. CONTENTS 50, LONDON, N 22. The picture has a trade make of screen Gems Inc. Barratt & Co Ltd , Authorized Users and in blue writing Irene. L. Inside the box it is divided into two compartments to house the sweet cigarettes. The sweets were in the shape of a cigarette usually white with a red coloured tip on one end giving the impression it was a real cigarette made of a sugar substance.
Provenance
A gift to the National Trust Museum of Childhood by Irene Lavington in 2019. It belonged to the donor in the late 1960's
