Summary
A doll's trunk made of wood covered in dark red cloth, filled mainly with various doll's accessories (circa 1890). The trunk itself has a hinged domed lid and is held together by round-headed upholstery tacks and strengthened at the corners with brass plates. The lid has three strips of wood running along it. There are two locks and a leather handle at each end. These handles are broken off and stored inside. Inside the trunk are three cardboard trays, one plain, one with criss-cross cotton tapes forming the base, and one divided into two compartments. The tray with the tape base contains a pale green doll's mattress with multicoloured stripes and a matching pillow. The plain tray contains: a manila envelope containing eight doll's envelopes in lilac with purple edging; a paper pattern for a Doll's Scouts Set comprising nineteen pieces plus an instruction sheet; a dark green cotton doll's skirt tied at the waist with white thread; a doll's dress in stiff beige cotton with pale blue cross-stitch embroidery; a doll's knitted cap in pale blue wool; four doll's socks, a pair in pink and two odd ones in white; a doll's straw hat with a wide flat brim decorated with cream satin ribbon and pink cotton roses; two leather handles and one brass clip broken off the trunk; a fragment of white braid; a coil of white cotton-covered wire; a white cotton lavender bag; a length of white satin ribbon and a length of black cotton ribbon. The divided tray contains: a cream flannel cot blanket with grey cross-stitch edging; a cylindrical cardboard pincushion with green and white embroidery on the top; a doll's pink straw hat with its crown covered in a fine beige fabric; a doll's white felt hat with a brim, trimmed with peach ribbon; a doll's navy blue serge beret; a pair of doll's, size four, white leather boots with pink lining; a pair of doll's, size four, white leather strap shoes; a pair of doll's size five green satin shoes; a pair of doll's pink satin shoes; one doll's brown leather strap shoe with a pom-pom; one doll's size three brown leather sandal; one doll's machine knitted white cap; and a short length of white satin ribbon. Total number of items is 66.
