Summary
A red locomotive, one of three homemade wooden toy vehicles each bearing a plate reading 'MADE BY J. BUDD of STAFFORD' on the base. The model is painted red with black decoration, and does show signs of having been well played with. In addition to general wear and tear there is also a large split in the wood down the left hand side of the engine. Despite the name plate giving the date of production as '1961' the vehicle was actually made up to eight years earlier as it originally belonged to 'J. Budd's son Allan, and when he out-grew the toy it was 're-touched' for the donor's son Richard to have instead.
Provenance
Made by Mr J. Budd from Stafford, owned by donor and played with by donors’ son Richard. This red locomotive was originally made for Mr J. Budd’s son Allan Budd, but when he out-grew the item it was touched-up and passed onto donors’ son along with the other vehicles. Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Mr and Mrs G. Hinckley in February 2011.
Marks and inscriptions
On the underneath of the base at the front: 'MADE BY J.BUDD / OF STAFFORD / 1961'
