Summary
A rectangular wooden painting box (circa 1875) with a sliding lid and compartments for brushes and ten solid tablets of water colour paint. A pale blue paper label on the lid reads 'School Of Art, Shilling Color Box'. A label on the underside of the lid gives 'Directions for Use', and another label, in the brush compartment of the box, gives 'A few practical directions for the use of the ten colours and three brushes'. The paints appear to have hardly, if ever, been used. There other items not on display, and currently in store - A sharpened wooden stick, pointed at one end; the red painted handle of a wooden paintbrush, the brush is missing; and an unusual button with two holes on one side and one on the other. Total number of items is 5.
