Summary

A highly decorated wooden cigar box containing leatherwork tools, dyes and leather pieces. There is one green metal box with a hinged lid containing eight metal tools, one wooden ruler, one wooden skewer, one pen and two corks. The box lid is stamped 'The Kingsway Mathematical Instruments, Set D'. Also in the cigar box is one small white cardboard box containing two metal cylinders and two metal circles. Six square glass bottles of Webster's Diamine concentrated dye powder. Four glass cylinders of varying sizes containing leather dyes. Two of these have black lids, the other two have silver coloured metal lids; four small circular cardboard boxes bound with black tape containing spirit stain; one metal cap. There are eleven pieces of leather of varying shapes and sizes comprising - two triangular and one rectangular piece of dark brown leather, one long, one short light brown strip, one strip with coloured dyes on it, one brown triangular dark brown piece with holes punched on two sides, one shaped dark brown piece which is tooled and punched, two triangular pieces of light brown leather with stamps and dyes on them, one folded light brown piece with a tooled design on the front. There are also six small pieces of newspaper used for wrapping but not included in the number of items. There is also a beige paper bound instruction book entitled 'Leathers, Skins and Tools for Artistic Leather Work'. The title is surrounded by a decorative leaf panel with 'George Co. Leather' on a red coloured oval below'. The cover has a black-beige picture of a shop and house with the addresses printed in black and red below . The book is illustrated with coloured and black and white illustrations. Ninety six pages. The date refers to the book of George & Co. Total number of items is 47.

On the right-hand corner of the lid of the cigar box on a rectangular label: 'From/ HENRY WILSON AND SONS (PALL MALL)/ 60, PALL MALL. LONDON S.W.' On the lids of the spirit stain boxes: 'S.J. RATCLIFF AND CO. 37, JOHN DALTON STREET, MANCHESTER/ SPIRIT STAIN'
