A black metal pencil sharpening machine. A pair of solid gear wheels are situated at one end and engage with a large cog wheel with a gold coloured sunburst decoration on its outer surface. These three cog wheels drive a shaft running to the other end of the machine, where another set of gears drive the holder for the non-writing end of the pencil. A flat bar with three vertical prongs runs above the drive shaft. A flat recess forms part of the base at the large cog wheel end. The 'body' of the machine is decorated with a gold coloured foliate pattern.
