Summary
An apprentice indenture printed in black ink on a cream paper. This indenture refers to Charles Brooks, son of John Brooks of Middleton-by-Wirksworth, being apprenticed to William Hatfield tailor of Wirksworth. It is printed in black ink with the first letter, T, is highly decorated. There is a seal beside it with a silver coloured centre piece, and it is stamped 'Derby 3.9.49'. The first four words are in heavy thick black print. The indenture is dated 11th January 1851. There is a red seal beside each of the following signatures - Charles Brooks, John Brooks and William Hatfield.
Provenance
Loaned to the Museum of Childhood by Mr Ron Brooks in September 1975, and donated in March 2010.
