Summary
A rectangular wooden pencil case (circa 1969). The lid is decorated with a painted or transfer decoration of pink roses. The lid slides off to reveal an upper compartment sub-divided into three pencil holders. This compartment is held in place with a screw on which it pivots revealing a middle compartment. The latter contains a double-ended eraser, a wooden lead holder with a hollow metal end which would hold a length of lead, and a black cylindrical lead holder with a removable lid (containing six leads). The bottom compartment completely slides off the base of the pencil case. Miss Bentley Derby (deceased), ran a small general store, closed shortly before her death in 1969 for demolition, several items from the stock were rescued. Total number of items is 13.
Provenance
Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Miss Bentley in 1969.
