Summary
An apprentice's indenture dated April 7th 1824. It is on cream paper, printed in black ink with handwritten names, dates and signatures. There are six red seals in bottom corner. The child is John Raine who, aged ten, is being apprenticed to George Wright, a farmer, in Cotherstone, Yorkshire, by the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor in Arkengarthdale (who are to receive four pounds ten shillings). John is apprenticed until the age of eighteen, at which time George Wright is to give him four suits of clothes. Also in the collection is a removal order dated August 7th 1816, when James Raine, with his two sons Joseph aged eight and john aged two were removed from Cotherdale and made to return to their own parish of Arkengarthdale.
