Summary
A child's plate with colour transfer decoration of Mother Goose riding a flying goose. She wears a yellow dress and white apron, green cloak lined in red, red stockings, black shoes and a black pointed hat with red trimming. On the rim of the plate, above and beneath the image in the centre of the plate is a verse 'Old Mother Goose, when she wanted to wander. Would ride through the air on a very fine gander, To fetch from the Pole Star, a very long spoon; To sup with a friend, at the back of the moon'. Around the rim of the plate is a gold lustre edge.
Marks and inscriptions
On the rim of the plate: 'Old Mother Goose, when she wanted to wander./ Would ride through the air on a very fine gander/ To fetch from the Pole Star, a very long spoon;/ To sup with a friend, at the back/ of the moon.' On the base of the plate: [crown surmounted by a lion] On the base of the plate, in a circular motif of interlocking D: : 'ROYAL DOULTON/ ENGLAND' On the base of the plate: 'COPYRIGHT/ NURSERY/ RHYMES.'
