Summary
A wooden drop-sided cot for a doll (1940-1949) painted cream with coloured transfer decorations on the ends (inside at one end and outside at the other). On the bottom of three of the legs are castors which have metal sides and wooden rollers. At one end the horizontal base slat has broken and has been messily mended with glue. One side is fixed on to vertical metal poles which enables the side to be lowered and raised. To hold the side in place when at its higher setting, a pivoting metal catch is fastened to the upright on the main body of the cot. The cot's base is made from a rectangular frame held together with nails and has a springy metal mesh stretched across it. It is supported by a small square of wood fastened to the lower edges of the cot ends, one of which is missing. The cot is quite dirty and worn. The paint is chipped revealing a coat of pale blue underneath. The base is broken at one corner and the mesh is quite rusty. The total number of items is 2.
Provenance
Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Mrs E. B. Castle in September 1986.
