Summary
A pair of fine white cotton pantaloons for a girl - one part of a girl's Voortrekker national costume donated by the South African Embassy in 1978. There is a gusset running from the waist hem to the crotch. The waist is threaded with elastic. The narrow legs are finished with four narrow bands of pintucks with a broderie anglaise edging. There are a couple of small stains on the pantaloons. Related garments - inventory numbers - 667760, 667782, 667786 and photograph of boy and girls wearing the costumes 668220. Voortrekker - a member of one of the groups of Dutch-speaking people who migrated by wagon from the Cape Colony into the interior from 1836 onwards, in order to live beyond the borders of British rule.
