Summary
A very fine wool cream coloured christening cape and bonnet (circa 1900). The cape is lined and has a yoke and collar. The cape is fastened by long silk ribbons at the neck. The attached cape and collar are decorated with self coloured piping. Both have a deep frill decorated on the free edge with self coloured embroidery with an eyelet feature. This cape also has an additional appliqué tape decoration along the edge and two appliqué medallions. The bonnet is made of single thickness heavy silk with darns at the back. The front of the bonnet, framing the face, has a piece sewn on with lace on either edge along the length. At the back of the bonnet, the material is drawn together to form a decorative rosette. The christening gown which was made in 1900, last used in 1920 and belonged to the Harris family. Total number of items is 2.
