Summary
A pedlar doll with composition or papier-mâché head and arms and glass eyes. She wears a black fabric bonnet with a black lace veil, a grey woollen shawl, a dark blue cotton print dress, a white cotton apron, a red coarse cotton petticoat, a white cotton under-petticoat and ankle length white fabric drawers. In her right hand she carries a brown cotton bag on a stick. In her left hand she holds a black wire belt and a length of brown twisted velvet cord. Two ropes are tied to her left shoulder. A tray is slung round her neck. It contains a variety of articles including almanacs, pieces of fabric, threads, needles and cotton. From the tray hang lace, packets on blue ribbons, pin cushions, a sieve, lengths of string, and a net with weights at both ends. On the front of the tray is a green label bearing a picture of a crown, and a white label which reads 'Dorothy Trudge, Licensed Hawker'. The doll stands on a square black-painted wooden base with grass represented by scraps of green wool. A square glass case, its corners held together by passe-partout binding, covers the doll and slots into the base. Total number of items is 3.
