Summary
This is a wooden sports rattle consisting of a wooden body, clappers, cogs and a handle. The handle goes through two holes on the sides of the body, and also through two cogs to which it is firmly attached. The handle and cogs freely rotate. The lugs on the cogs cause the clappers to spring making a noise. This is magnified by a sound box formed by the back of the rattle. The two clappers are slats of wood screwed down at their fixed ends. There is a piece of fabric stuck on the back of the body. On the side of the body is an inscription, most of which is obliterated, which could be the manufacturer or owner's name.
