Summary
This wooden child's desk has four straight legs, rectangular in cross section. The top of the desk is flat and the lid is hinged with metal pieces, painted black although rusted, screwed to the two outer edges of the lid. At the back of the hinged lid is the fixed part of the desk containing a round ink-stained hole on the right for an inkwell. Across the full width runs a groove for pencils. Four Phillips screws can be seen on this part. The desk lid shows three splits, but is still firm. The underside of the desk lid still shows yellow varnish and recent wood dust adhering lightly. There is a scratched and pencilled signature `Jane Tunstall'. The interior of the desk is dry with some small to medium ink stains with a hole in the base immediately below the inkwell hole.
