Summary
Print, engraving, Ramsgate (after Joseph Mallord William Turner) by Thomas Goff Lupton (Clerkenwell 1791 – London 1873)A print of a stormy marine scene close to a harbour entrance. Just to the right of the centre is a two masted sailing ship with one sail furled, being buffeted by a very stormy sea. In the foreground are pounding waves and two bits of flotsam. Three small boats are making for the harbour entrance. On the left of the harbour entrance is a lighthouse silhouetted against a very dark stormy sky. On the right of the harbour entrance, behind the sailing ship, the harbour wall shows several men and masts and sails of boats already docked. These are silhouetted against a pale but cloudy sky and cliffs. The print has inscribed below it on the left 'J.M.W. Turner' and on the right 'T. Lupton 1827' and below this 'Ramsgate Plate 3', and below this 'London Pub. May 1827 by Thos. Lupton of Leigh St. Bunton Crescent'.
