Summary
A letter to Richard Richardson of Capenhurst near Chester, from his cousin, Emma Constable of London, dated 5.5.1817. The letter is handwritten in ink on both sides of a sheet of cream coloured paper. On the left-hand side of the front is the name and address of Richard Richardson. The letter is folded in on itself to form an envelope and fixed with a seal. This has been cut away and is attached to the centrefold. The letter emphasises the financial problems she is having, difficulties of a lone woman, loss of pupils to the public schools, the hope she has of acquiring a shop and emphasising his benevolence. In another hand, dated May 7 1817, it is written that he sent three bank notes and two other numbered items. The letter is impressed with `Derbyshire Museum Service'.
