Summary
A letter to Richard Richardson of Capenhurst near Chester from his cousin Emma Constable, dated 22.9.1814. It is handwritten in ink on both sides of cream coloured paper. On the front left-hand side is the name and address of Richard Richardson. The letter is folded to form an envelope and fixed with a seal on the centre fold, which has been cut away from the edge. The letter states that Emma's right eye having given trouble, she has had to give up her needlework 'with the school every little helps' followed by news of her dispersed family - Harriott performing at the Royal Theatre in Margate, adding 'I hope it is true'. Her daughter received a letter from her father 'I told her never to name him'. She requests continuation of her allowance to meet the rent. Enclosed is a small type written précis of the contents. The paper is impressed with the words 'Derbyshire Museum Service'
